In recent years, while promoting the integration of urban and rural areas, with the continuous increase of power load, 10 kV cables often fail. Maintenance and repair are very difficult, and the location of cable failures caused by old equipment has become a shortcoming of the power supply bureau, which has been plaguing the emergency maintenance team of the power supply branch. In the past, branch emergency maintenance teams bridged to measure failures.

Such devices are very limited and often fail hard for a variety of reasons. Usually, the load is carried by other lines, then opened and found, sometimes it takes several days to check, which seriously affects the repair work of the cable. At the same time, due to the changes in the laying environment of power cables and the application of various cables and their new materials in cable lines, it is more and more difficult to locate faults in power cables on-site.

The fault location of directly buried power cable lines highlights the difficulty of cable fault location. At present, although there are relevant classic technical literatures and advanced fault detectors, there are high resistance faults in power cable lines. However, when using a professional cable fault locator for on-site location, sometimes there are some special faults that cannot be found.

For example, the creepage flashover fault of the insulation surface of the terminal head and the intermediate head of the medium voltage cross-linked power cable, the accurate determination of the metal short-circuit fault, etc., often use a professional cable fault locator to be powerless or powerless. For common cable faults, use a commercially available cable fault locator to locate the fault point, usually in minutes or hours. However, when a particular fault occurs and the detection is not smooth, it may be necessary to invoke multiple cable fault detectors with different functions to repeat the test and confirm rotation detection and alignment.

These types of fault instruments mainly include various cable fault detectors designed and manufactured according to the bridge method and wave method principles, so localization may take days or even longer, so when you are lucky, you can be sure. At the point of failure, when bad luck occurs, the location of the point of failure remains undetermined.
