Proximity Fault Waveforms The direct-flash pulse current waveforms of two close-proximity faults are given. Figure 4.10.a is a waveform with a fault distance of 20 meters. The reflected wave at the fault point quickly returns to the measurement end and is superimposed on the previous pulse. The adjacent pulses are very close, and the amplitude of the short-range fault waveform is given. The direct-flash pulse current waveforms of two short-range faults were obtained. Figure 4.10.a is a waveform with a fault distance of 20 meters. The reflected wave from the fault point returns to the measurement end quickly and is superimposed on the previous pulse. The adjacent pulses are very close and have a small amplitude.
Figure 4.10.b is the waveform of the fault on the cable head. When the fault breaks down, a short-circuit arc is formed on the cable head. The capacitor itself and the stray inductance of the test lead form a discharge loop, which generates an oscillating current, which is converted by a linear current coupler. Then, a decaying cosine oscillation waveform as shown in the figure is formed.
