Cable fault characteristics Cable fault appearance characteristics or human intuition The cable fault characteristics are analyzed from the external characteristics of cable faults. There are usually two types of faults: 1. Exposed faults Obviously, the fault can be directly found through human eyes observation. Points, such as: there is obvious damage to the outer sheath or insulation of the cable. Most of these faults are single-phase or multi-phase leakage faults. 2. Comparing the closed fault with the exposed fault, the appearance of the cable is intact, and the outer sheath and shield of the cable have no obvious damage marks, which can also be called the internal injury of the cable.

In the past, closed faults were often associated with flashover faults, or more precisely, two types of faults. Because there were more oil-impregnated paper dielectric cables in the past. Most of the flashover faults are found during the pre-test, and the pre-test process of the cable is very short, and the voltage is not enough to damage the outer sheath and lead wrap of the cable, so it is closed.

Due to the increase of XLEP cables in recent years, its physical properties are different from those of oil-impregnated paper cables, often leaking or even short-circuiting, and its fault point is still closed. Therefore, we cannot confuse flashover failures with closed failures.
